tivo in canada with shaw cable?

hello all - newbie here
i just moved to canada from california which means i had to say good bye to my directv tivo - i have been scouring the web and some sites say i can use a tivo box with my shaw cable -- but when i called shaw, they said a tivo box will not work as it is not supported - is this just a line they have to say? if i pushed it will they give me cable cards??? i miss my tivo!!!!

Can't blame you for missing your TiVo. As far as we know, TiVo works just fine up in Canada, eh. Series 2 units have codes and schedules for local providers. And as for Series 3 and the TiVo HD, if Canadian providers are obligated to allow for CableCARDs to their customers as US providers are, I don't see why there would be a compatibility issue.
