So I installed the new WD 500 GB expander drive to my S3 144hour WK unit. It recognizes the new drive each time, asks to set it up and reboots.

Nothing changes and the recognize screen keeps popping up over and over.

Does this mean I can't use this drive with my Weaknees box? If so, why not?

According to TiVo, it should work. What exact software version do you have?

All the reports I've heard are that "plug and play" eSATA expansion does not work if you have an expanded A drive. For this case, the expanded A drive and the eSATA drive have to be married on the PC side.

How does one do this? Would I need to set up a linux box?

Yes, you'd need Linux, or you'd need to send us the whole shebang.
