Original Drive Died. Can I just format a new drive a plug it in?

I have a Series 2 Tivo TCD24004A and the hard drive died. It won't spin up at all. Can I follow the instructions at http://www.upgrade-instructions.com on a replacement drive I have and then just plug the replacement drive into my Tivo? Or do I need a disk image with the Tivo software?

You need the TiVo software, so if your drive is don't, this won't work, sorry to say. We do have drive kits for your unit here (http://www.weaknees.com/tv4a.php).
