View Full Version : Can I use the same image on different TiVos?

I made an image of my TiVo hard drive when it was fresh and before running the setup procedure or making any changes. It was from a Series 2 TiVo brand machine (TCD54000 I think). I've restored this image to a larger drive and successfully used it in this same machine.

My question is this, can I use that same image and burn it to a hard drive that is going into any Series 2 TiVo unit and have it work? For instance, I also have a Humax T800 that I want to upgrade.

Thanks for any info,
Larry

Really, it'll only work well in another 540 model unit. While it may boot, it might have problems when it dials in . . .

Ok, that's what I was wondering. So each different machine has it's own version of the TiVo OS that needs to be burned to the hard-drive for it to work right.

Thanks

Yup - that's basically it.

Does this also apply to series 1 units? If I'm restoring a HDR312, can I use an image from a HDR112.
