HR 10-250: usable without directv subscription?

I want to use this with an off air antenna. What features are usable without a tivo or Directv subscription? Can it record? can it schedule? I'm too cheap to pay for Directv - and besides, since I don't have cable, I rarely have anything that I would want to record. Besides, I get better HD picture from my antenna than I would from a cable/satellite provider.

If you don't pay for DirecTV, as far as I know, that unit won't tune any live TV at all - dish or OTA. You'd likely be able to watch whatever is on it, but nothing new.
