I was wandering why I couldn't just take the old drive out, use ghost to copy an identical image to my new drive and put the new one in. Has anyone tried this?

We're not sure why, but Ghost can't seem to work with drives formatted this way. We haven't tried in years, but it doesn't seem to do the same low-level copy as something like the Unix utility 'dd' does.

Doesn't ghost do a bit by bit copy? I used it for the first time about 3 months ago to copy my pc's old hard drive to the new one. When I did it through DOS it copied everything, including operating system and drivers, exactly. If no one has tried it in years, maybe I will try it first before I go through all the steps of doing it the other way.

I thought that maybe it wasn't possible because of changing hard drive sizes the new drive wouldn't register its correct size with tivo and maybe tivo would not have access to the new space.

Just be careful about booting into Windows with a TiVo drive connected. That'll render the drive inoperable.

Tell us how it goes.

Thanks for the tip about booting into Windows with a TiVo drive connected. I had no idea it would kill the drive. I will let you know.
