retrieving video off dead DTV Tivo

I have a Directv tivo and a Directv dvr that have stopped working is there any way to get the video off the hard drive.

What are the symptoms of the dead TiVo?

One of our DirecTiVos got to a point where it just won't start up. All we would get was a gray screen. We called direcTV and they talked us through all of the troubleshooting with now luck. They said they would send us out a refurbed TiVo unit, but when it got here it was actually a DirecTV dvr (yuck!).

I had upgraded the hard drive a couple years ago and kept the old as a back up, so I slapped the old one back in and the unit fired up just fine so I would say the newer/bigger hard drive died. We had a lot of shows recorded, so if possible i would like to recover those shows on another new hard drive.

Given that your larger drive died, there's really not a huge chance you can recover the shows, but we can try a low-level copy if you'd like. Email us for more info: info@weaknees.com.
