Directv HR10 w/ no hard drive

I purchased a Directv DVR model HR10-250 with no hard drive. I have a Maxtor 500gb hard drive to install. The instructions are to replace a hard drive, but I do not have the original hard drive. What do I need to do to get the hard drive to work in the DVR? Thanks.
