  • swm-8 running very hot

Just installed the SWM-8 with my Slimline Dish. Works perfect, but I'm concerned that it's running so hot it isn't safe. Does it just run hot and this is normal?

    Thanks,
    BD

"Hot" is pretty subjective, but there are no internal fans and the part can get warm, yes.

      too hot to handle

Hotter than a hot plate of food. Too hot to hold onto beyond 4-5 seconds. Burning hot.

It should use convection venting to cool itself. Is it inside or out? Is it mounted to something hot? Does it get decent airflow?

We have seen some get pretty warm, but never cause a problem. But if it's too hot, that can certainly cause issues.
        Been here a long time . . .

          warm now

I had it in the attic and it was so hot I could only hold it in my hands for 10-15 seconds before it started burning. So...I ended up running 4 wires anyways down the wall into my A/V closet and in so doing defeated the purpose of the switch...but it still works and now merely runs warm. I have it sitting on a concrete floor. It works. Thanks for your feedback.
