Will the newly announced HD XL unit correct some of the reported shortfalls in the previous HD units? For example, the inability to use Comcast's On Demand. Also I believe there is a problem sending non-HD programs to other TIVO units across a home network.

Bottom line, other than space, what does this new box offer?

It does not have two-way communication with the cable company. It primarily adds capacity.

And non-HD programs transfer just fine over to other non-HD boxes on the network . . .
