Power Failure Erases Programs

I have a UltimateTV box (Sony) used with DirecTV service that has worked well for many years. However, about 2 years ago it developed a strange problem: Whenever there is a power failure (even a very brief one), all recorded shows are lost! This happens even if the box is turned off when the power failure occurs. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Is this something weaKnees would be able to repair?

Sounds like it's reformatting the drive somehow - not something we've seen, but Ultimates can reformat drives and use blank drives, so that explains how it works again afterward.
