HDVR2 swap

My Hughes HDVR2 (160GB) tuner has been dying for some time now. A friend is changing to Verizon FIOS and is offering me their old HDVR2 (40GB). Would I be able to exchange my access card and hard drive without loosing any service or recordings? Would I have to contact DirecTV?

PS - I haven't made a Daily Call in years

Unfortunately, you'll both lose your recordings, and have to have the unit dial in. The new unit will need to be wiped, and you'll likely need a new access card for DirecTV to activate it on your account.
