  • Drive upgrade vs. upgrade w/program xfer

I want to upgrade my R-10 to a 500Gb disk. I'm debating whether or not to go for the full transfer of programs and settings. Is there some performance or other advantage in going with a clean new formatted disk and starting from guided setup, vs. whatever you do when you preserve programming? I'm thinking maybe you have to transfer the old drive image and that the file system configuration may not be optimal on the new drive.

I also have another R-10 I just got off eBay. If I go with a clean install on the original R-10, can I replace the drive in the eBay R-10 with my old drive and watch my old programs?

    Basically, no to both questions:

    1) If your drive is fine now, then copying data won't impact performance.
    2) If you move a drive from one TiVo to another, you won't be able to watch the shows recorded on the drive.
