I guess my DVR Expander drive has issues. when attached my tivo will not boot up. one month out of warranty. (reason i hate prepacked HDD's only one year warranty) Is it possible to replace the drive in the enclosure and have my TivoHD see the drive?

I suppose you can do that, but I'm not sure it's the wisest thing to do. You are better off just replacing the entire external.

i just don't want to give WD 200 bucks for a 1TB drive with a one year warranty when i can buy the same drive for less than 100 with a 3year warranty through distribution. i hate manufactured drive enclosures with their short warranties. i may be better off by buying an internal WK upgrade.

I'd be careful putting any old drive in a WD Expander case.
All else equal, we recommend internal drives over externals...there is better ventilation. Our external case has a very large fan to help cooling, but it's nothing like the well-ventilated TiVo.
