DIY Philips HDR312 + WK upgrade = nothing

I purchased a Philips HDR312 box with no hard drive from SurplusComputers.com and an upgrade kit from Weaknees. When I hooked it up, it went to the screen reading "Your Recorder is starting up, Please wait a moment...". One day later, the screen hasn't changed. Does anyone know what I should be doing next? Thanks in advance.
