DVD recorders compatible with S3?

I just received my weaknees s3 and preparing to install soon.

I had thought I would buy a dvd burning device and hopefully connect it to the S3. However local bestbuy tech says there is some code involved with a programs recorded on tivo that in turn prevents that program from being burned onto a dvd.

Is this right? are there particular dvd burners that will work with the s3?

In some cases, that's essentially right, but generally using the analog output cables at DVD recorder resolution (480i) then you shouldn't have a problem.
