upgrade unit with lifetime membership?

Hi. I'm kind of new at this upgrade stuff ... but my main concern is the follow: having a tivo with a lifetime subscription, can the drivers be safely replaced/upgraded without risk of losing the account? I'm not sure if vital info is stored in the HD. thanks

The lifetime sub is attached to your motherboard, not the hard drive, so there is no problem there. I have done many upgrades with all of my lifetime subs.
