I have a Hughes DirecTV Series2. About a month ago, I noticed it was occasionally rebooting itself. Then a few weeks ago, I discovered it had apparently crashed (no video signal at all). I unplugged it, and plugged it in, and it booted up OK. Today, I found it had gotten itself in a loop of the "Powering Up" screen, and the "Just a few minutes more" screen. Again, unplugging and plugging it back in, it booted up again ok.
Is the hard drive going bad, or is it probably a cable inside the TiVo?

That's pretty definitely a bad hard drive. Find your exact model and order a "replace" kit here:

When I first bought it, several years ago, I added a second hard drive to it. How do I know which drive is going bad? If I get a Replace Kit, do I take both old drives out?

Without running diagnostics on your drives, there's no way to know which oneis failing. In fact, it could be both. Either way, if you order a "replace" kit, you'll pull out both of the old drives and run just the new drive(s).
