We are recent TiVo converts and are enjoying all the features, especially transferring recordings among our 3 TiVos. I'd like to add another box but only for the purpose of viewing previously recorded programs. I do not need to record anything on this box - just transfer.

I understand that I would have to activate this 4th box and pay the monthly subscription, but I'd like to know if there is a workaround for this problem. I can't justify paying a 4th subscription, even though the 2nd and 3rd boxes are at a reduced rate. Has anyone been successful in accomplishing what we'd like to do?

Sorry, no. We certainly understand why you'd want to do that, and why you would not want to pay...but TiVo makes money from the subscription and bypassing the TiVo service would actually be considered theft.
