Newbie here - Disc Initialize in XP first???

I have a brand new 750GB HD for series 3. Is it ok to initialize this in XP first since my SATA controller doesn't recognize the capacity (i.e., it hangs and I can't get to the cd-boot disk).

Assuming the drive is blank, formatting should hurt or help. This shouldn't help the hang - the CD probably just isn't compatible with your SATA card. The easiest answer may be to send us the drive to format:

I resolved this, I only needed to update the bios and driver of my SATA controller. Thanks for the response.
