  • Desktop Cannot See DVR

    Series 3 DVR. Windows XP Pro. Desktop 2.4 (was 2.3). Used to work. Now Desktop says the DVR is unavailable. But I can connect to it via a web browser and it gets updates over the network.

    Does anyone know what protocols or ports are used? Any tips for forcing Desktop to know what IP address the DVR is using?

    Have you tried restarting the TiVo?

      That just made the exiting DVR disappear from the list. Now Desktop says: searching.....

      I suspect the issue is deep in Windows networking. I can't manage Windows Firewall. I just tried installing ZoneAlarm free and the installer complained of missing entries in a DLL.

      It may be time to rebuild Windows from scratch....

        Sounds like it. You should also check to be sure both the computer and TiVo are on the same subnet.
        Been here a long time . . .
