Buying ala carte vs. already upgraded

What I am I missing? If I purchase the base Series 3 DVR and the 750 GB upgrade plus the 3 year warranty. It appears that I come out cheaper. What is the catch?

If you want a full warranty on everything, the only way to get it is on the complete unit. If you get it on the parts, we end up only warranting the drive.
