  • Guide not updating

i recently replaced my failed drive in a series 2 TIVO with a WK drive. The installation went smoothly, everything booted up. However, a few weeks afterwards, I started getting messages that the Tivo was running out of guide data. I would manually connect (I use a home network), it would complete the connection, process the data, etc., but when I would look, there would still be no updated guide data.
Finally, out of frustration, I reran the guided setup (I didn't have much stored since I had recently changed the drive). It downloaded everything fine, but then about two weeks later, I got the same messages, and no matter what I tried, I coudln't get it to download new guide info. Needless to say, I have verified my network, I have a good IP address, I even once tried connecting thru a phone line. Same results.
I tried calling Tivo Customer Service. They were clueless. They did say that the problem was that the Tivo was hanging on a software update, and that was what was preventing the guide data from updating. They wanted me to send it in and swap it for $150. I declined. This is a non-digital Tivo, and I don't really want to spend much more money on it, since I'll be replacing the TV soon with an HD.
After I got off the phone, I tried running the guided setup again, but without erasing the disk. It did manage to download the guide data for the net two weeks, but it's again stuck and not updating. My question is, could I have messed something up in installing the replacement drive that could be causing this? Has anyone seen this before? I looked thru these and other forums, and so far haven't found anything.

That sounds most like a mis-matched version of the OS. Can you post your exact model number and full TiVo OS version number?

I think we emailed you also, but you ordered a drive for an AT&T TCD130040, but you have a TCD2400XX model. Please reply to the email we sent previously so that you can return the drive you bought and order the one you need.

I think we got it. A lot of people put "@weakness.com" instead of "@weaknees.com" so that may have caused the problem.

I also have the same problem with guide data not updating and being in a holding pattern for a version update.

                  platform: series2
                  software version: 7.3.1-oth-01-2-130
                  tivo service number: 1FO-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

This is a prototype series 2 unit that I received from a former employer. The original HD died and I had replaced it with a WK HD in June.

That sounds pretty clearly like a bad drive. The drive can't store the downloaded data. A new drive should fix it:

Uniquecass -- I have the exact same problem with the exact same tivo -- the Toshiba TS-RX60. It started around a month ago when tivo released the new software upgrade. It took on my newer tivo but not on the Toshiba, with the result being that I lost multiroom viewing since they have to have the same software version. I was able to have the Toshiba see my desktop however, so I could transfer to/from the desktop (and thus indirectly to the other tivo). A couple of weeks ago, I ran out of guide data and the tivo has not been able to get new data. It connects to the server and downloads, but doesn't install. I've also lost all connectivity to the desktop as well. Oddly, the desktop "sees" the Toshiba but if I click on it on the desktop, it says that it has an error displaying the Toshiba's programming information. So all I can do with this tivo right now is watch the programs that were recorded on it at least two weeks ago. If I have to replace the hard drive (which I will without any ideas from anyone), I'm hoping I'll be able to save the programs I've recorded.

Tivo Series 2 Does Not Respond to the Remote

I just resplaced my Series 2 Tivo hard drive with a WK hard drive. I cannot get past the "Welcome!" screen because the Tivo does not respond to the remote control.

When any key on the remote is pressed the remote LED lights, pluse the remote works with my other Tivo, so the problem does not appear to be in the remote.

Can anyone offer troubleshooting steps for getting the Tivo to respond to the remote?
                            Don
