  • Tivo Series 2 Rebooting after upgrade

    Hi Everyone

I have a Tivo Series 2 that I upgraded from an 80hr to 160hr hard-drive from WeakKnees. By the way, the upgrade was so easy my 10yo could have done it. Hats off to Weaknees for that!

Anyway my tivo powered up just fine and got everything set back. The next morning I noticed that the lights on the front were flashing. I watched for a few minutes and noticed that my Tivo was rebooting over and over. I unplugged and let it set a while. Plugged back in and still doing it.

I saw another thread about unplugging any USB devices. I have a USB wireless receiver which I unplugged and let it boot. It seem to come up just fine. I then plugged the USB wireless lan back in and in about 10 seconds it rebooted again.

Could this be a power supply problem? I went ahead and ordered one from Weaknees anyway. The unit itself is about 10 years old.

    Anymore thoughts or comments?

    Thank you
    Mark

What does the unit do with your original/factory drive installed?

The hard-drive didn't even power up any longer. I did a shutdown one night and when I powered back up the hard-drive was dead. When I put in the new hard-drive, everything worked great for about 12 hours, then the rebooting started.

The Tivo has been working flawlessly without the USB wireless lan connected.

It sounds like you might have a bad unit, but you should try the Kickstart 54 procedure shown here:

Well, I was not able to get into the Kickstart menu for some reason, but yesterday I did receive my new power supply. Installed last night, plugged in the USB lan and so far 12 hours later everything is working perfectly. Will post again later to give status.
