  • Failure on restoring image

I have a Toshiba SD-H400 with an 80 GB Maxtor. I'm using Win98 to transfer to a 160 GB Maxtor. Started fresh out of the box with no partitions. Ran successful Step 7 (Backup)option #1

At Step 8 (restoring) the screen is as follows:

    Starting restore
    Uncompressed backup size: 1863 megabytes
Restore failed: Decompression error.30%) (78.90% compression)

    Now what and what happened?

    Thanks

Sounds like a corrupt backup or you ran out of space on your hard drive and didn't realize it when you made the backup.

      Reran image

I went ahead and ran the copy procedure from upgrade option #3 which did complete successfully and said that my hours went from 81 to 174. After replacing the new drive back in the TIVO and powering up the unit, it went through the welcome and such then rebooted, came up with a screen that said it detected an error and will try to fix itself. It ran for a few hours then came back fine. The only problem is that the system still reports only 80 hours available for recording. Will this be a problem?

      Thanks

With that unit, there's one extra step to unlock the capacity. Please see the info specifically for it on our site:

I ran the unlock command which stated successful.

Now the Tivo is frozen at the Welcome screen.

I'll research the website for some answers but if you know the reason please let me know the solution to this.

Maybe a jumper or cable issue now? Did you boot into Windows at any point with the drive connected?

I never booted to windows. Pulled the working drive out, ran the unlock command and put it back in. After powering up it sticks at the welcome screen.

I just put the old drive back in for a test and it works fine.

Something in the sd-h44_unlock command didn't like the Tivo or vice versa.

              Any suggestions?

You'd have to try a new copy at this point. You might also test the drive in a PC to see if it shows errors.
