  • removing one hard disk from upgraded tivo

I got my series 2 (40GB) tivo upgraded by adding another 200 GB drive using weaknees upgrade kit.
Unfortunately (after exactly 6 months and 2 days !!), I noticed that the drive is failing (pixelations, tivo started hanging etc).

For the time being, I would like to go back to my 40 GB original configuration. is it alright if I just open the tivo and disconnect (IDE and power for) my 200 GB drive?

Nope - it won't power up at all if you remove the second drive.

How do you know which drive is causing the problems? It's more likely to be the older drive.
    Been here a long time . . .

is there a way to find out which drive is causing problems?

You can run diagnostic tests - see the post about that in the other forum. But that doesn't necessarily always tell you everything.

You can use the instructions to make a backup, and then restore that to just the 40 GB drive. This assumes the drives are working well enough to get a backup image.
