  • restore failed: target not large enough (but i know it is)

I'm trying to upgrade a series 2 from a single drive to another single drive. I did this before years ago and had no issues, but this time it's not working. When I run the mfsbackup / restore commands it gives me the following error:

source drive size is 79 hours
    - Upgraded to 127 hours

    uncompressed backup size: 113755 megabytes
restore failed: backup target not large enough for entire backup by itself
    ---
but if I page up into the boot screen it clearly shows my old drive correctly recognized as 120gb and the new one as 500gb. What's going wrong?

the only weird thing in my setup is that my new drive is sata so it's hooked up to the pc through a rosewill sata-to-ide host adapter (which several people recommended as being compatible with my tivo). but it's reporting the correct size so I don't know why it's not working. Help!

If you have already upgraded, then you can't re-upgrade using those tools. You need to do the upgrade without saving programs using that same tool.
