The hard drives are making horribly loud noises and I'm sure are on the virge of dying... I would like to take the 2 of them and transfer to a single drive...

In following Hinsdale's directions I have setup my tivo A & B on my Primary Master/Slave, my new 40 GB drive on Secondary Master , CD ROM drive as the slave...

I used MFSTOOLS 2.0 with the following command :

    mfsbackup -Tao - /dev/hda /dev/hdb | mfsrestore -r 4 -s 127 -xzpi - /dev/hdc

    and receive the following :

mfs_load_zone_map: Primary zonemap corrupt, loading backup.
mfs_load_zone_map: Secondary zone map corrupt, giving up.
    mfs_load_zone_map: Zone map checksum error!
mfsbackup: Backup failed to startup. Make sure you specified the right devices, and that the drives are not locked.
    Restore failed: -: Success

I verified the drives are correct by scrolling back up and also verified they are reporting with the correct drive space, so they are not locked....

    Any ideas or advice ????

Sounds like the drives are pretty much toast.

The command you're trying won't actually work - you can't go from two drives to one and keep recordings - but you aren't even getting far enough for the tools to realize that.
    Been here a long time . . .
