  • TiVo HD (TCD652160) GSOD, Recovered, SMART Test Passed

It would have been easier if the drive just failed, but...

My TiVo rebooted while playing back a program. Did this twice in the same spot, then once when just hitting play. On that boot up, I got the GSOD. After a few hours, TiVo recovered to a live TV program.

Note that this TiVo has the DVR Expander HD. It also relies on a Tuning Adapter from Cox.

I ran the SMART test on the TiVo, while running SMART tests on the DVR Expander via my PC (thought it would go quicker with simultaneous tests—although I had to format the DVR Expander, there was only 1 program on it).

TiVo SMART Result: All tests passed
DVR Expander SMART Results: All tests passed, including using Windows 7 disk error checking.

I'm sort of at a loss since all tests were passed. I can do the overnight TiVo HD test, but thought I would post first. I'm also running without the DVR Expander for now. Any help appreciated.

You should really do the overnight tests on both drives - they're much more comprehensive.
    Been here a long time . . .

Any idea how long "overnight" really takes? My wife get's antsy without her TiVo!

Depends on the drive size, but it takes a long time....overnight.
