  • Need to replace dying TiVo HD drive.

The drive on my TiVo HD is dying - emitting a high pitched noise as it goes.

If I replace it with a blank drive, will the TiVo HD set up the drive?

I would do the whole transfer thing, but I no longer have access to a PC - having long gone over to a MacBook.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

You would need a TiVo hard drive that is preprogrammed with the TiVo software. Find your TiVoHD model here:

    A blank drive won't work.

You should also check to confirm that the noise is not a fan, which you can do by inserting a toothpick into the fan grate to stop the fan before you plug in the TiVo. Then remove the toothpick and see if that causes the noise to start.
