  • what dish and lnb do i need for a directv self install swm system

    hi,

i want to do a self install dish and lnb at a second home in the mountain. i will be using either a hr44 genie or a hr24 dvr. will only have 3-4 tv's at most

i have spent time looking and cant figure out which dish and lnb i should get.

can someone please help me? doing the install will be easy compared to figuring out what equipment i need.

    thanks

    tom

You should get either a SWM3 or SWM5 LNB dish. The 5 is used in more rural areas, the 3 is sufficient for most major metro areas.

Given that this house is in the mountains, you'll likely need a 5.

These are a bit tricky to aim. If you have problems after installation, see if you can pay a local DTV person to just aim your already-mounted dish.

nearest installer is a long ways aways and wants quite a bit. does the 5lnb use any directv slimline dish?

any recommendations on installation equipment for aiming?

      thanks

        The dish is here:

For aiming, we really don't have experience with meters, but they cost quite a bit - more than your local guide, I'd bet.
