Multi-switch question

When attaching the four cables from the DirecTV three-satellite dish to a 4x8 multi-switch, does it matter which cable from the satellite is attached to each of the four inputs on the switch?

In most cases, no, it doesn't matter at all.

There are two situations that I can think of where it would matter:

1) It's really a 5x8 multiswitch (some are) and you need to skip the OTA port

2) You are splitting the four SAT cables to two 4x8 switches, in which case you need to put both ends of a split to the same frequency input on each 4x8 multiswitch.
