  • Modem issue - no guide info

    My Philips HDR 312 (I should say, my Trusty TiVo!) can't seem to get new guide info. I keep getting messages that say I have no guide info.

    So I try to make it call TiVo and then it tells me that the modem isn't responding.

    I tried the main thing I do when my computer doesn't work: I restarted it.

    But I still get nothing.

    Is there anything I can do or do I have to get a new TiVo? I have a lifetime service plan on this one so I don't want to lose it.

    Modems in TiVos can and do fail. The model of TiVo you have had an especially problematic modem. In a way, you're lucky it lasted this long.

    We have a TiVo external modem kit that should fix your problem. Basically, it sits outside the TiVo and plugs into the back of the TiVo. You then tell the TiVo (with the remote) to use it. It's pretty simple, and if fixes a bunch of modem problems, yours included.

    One note: make sure you have the cable on that linked page. It shipped with your unit originally. If you don't have it, you can buy that with the modem kit. It's not something that's available at Radio Shack.
