Test broken Tivo with drive from working Tivo

I have a TCD540040 which died in an electrical surge. It gets stuck on the powering up screen. The drive makes noise (beeps) but nothing boots. Was wondering if I could swap the drive from my working TCD649080 to the 540040 to see if it boots up. If it does, than I just need to replace the drive. If not, maybe time to send it out for repair. Anyone know if the second drive will boot in the non working tivo?
