HDMI signal dies after the "Welcome.." screen on TiVo HD

Yes, you can swap drives if you only want to see if the unit boots and doesn't lose signal. You won't lose shows.

However, my Hard Drive kickstart tests pass.Originally posted by WK-Michael View PostWe can take a look:

My guess is that your hard drive has failed in there.
I have two identical Tivo HD units. Can I swap the Hard Drives between units to see if the problem travels with the Drive or the Unit? Will I lose all my shows?
Another Question - Do these HDMI chips have a history of failing like this? (still working on the "Welcome.." screen)? - That seems strange to me.

I’ve swapped my two Tivos between rooms (every combination of TVs cables, etc) and the problem is clearly only with one of my Tivos.Originally posted by WK-Michael View PostTry other outputs and, if you can, a different TV. You even could have a problem related to the physical HDMI cable. Swap it out if you can.
I tried several cables including an old long (12 ft) cheap cable that gave me trouble with an old DVD palyer. The Welcome screen continued to look good on that old cable but the HDMI signal died when the "Almost there.." screen comes on the component signals.
The other outputs all work perfectly. All Tivo functionality also works perfectly.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for not responding sooner. My email notification must have been set wrong.Originally posted by WK-Jeff View PostHave you tried pressing the "FORMAT" button on the front of your unit a few times? Keep pressing it as you cycle through the output formats.
Yes I tried all the formats and even tried all the TV resolution settings. I still only see video to my TV during the "Welcome.." screen
This doesn't seem to be a hardware failure so I'm wondering if its some kind of HDCP problem. However, the TV displays "no signal" and not any sort of "rights violation" message.
I'm stumped and hate to give up, so any ideas are welcome.

HDMI signal dies after the "Welcome.." screen on TiVo HD
I have 2 Lifetime Tivo HDs that have worked on the same TVs and HDMI cables for almost 5 years without a problem until recently. One of them simply stopped outputting anything after the Tivo "Welcome.." screen. When the boot-up process advances to the "Almost There.." screen, the HDMI output signal simply goes off but the AV and Component signals keep working. Everything else works normally after that (except the HDMI signal). The System Status screen says HDMI is “not connected”.
I’ve swapped my two Tivos between rooms (every combination of TVs cables, etc) and the problem is clearly only with one of my Tivos. I inspected the HDMI connector physically outside and inside on the PC board and it looks good. Also, if it matters, I'm not using cable cards. I use only OTA and analog cable inputs on both.
Since the Welcome screen displays properly every time, it seems like the HDMI hardware must be working and it seems like a software or HDMI handshake problem.
I’ve searched several forums and saw other folks reporting similar problems but I didn’t find any solutions or explanations. I'm stumped - Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Tags: None
