  • HR10 DirectTivo Unit

My brother-in-law gave me his HR10 DirectTivo unit -- he moved to an area where the trees prevent him from doing Direct TV and he has to go with cable or fios. I am days away from making the leap to HDTV.

I really want to use this because I am so used to the Tivo interface. What steps do I need to go through to get this new unit activated on my account? Will I need to get new Access Cards, call Direct TV and let them know of the new equipment, etc.

I've been reading through the forums trying to figure it out, but while I ahve bits and pieces of the answer, I'm still not sure what to do.

    Thanks.

IF you already have DIRECTV, you just need to get a new access card and call DIRECTV and activate it. The only problem would be if your brother-in-law activated the unit as a leased receiver, in which case it will be impossible to re-activate it on your account.
