  • Drive replacement option Verification

I have a Phillips HDR212, 2 - 40GB drive system. The screen is stuck on "please wait, system is starting..." or similar, so I opened it up and it appears that the "Slave" drive is not spinning. It is my understanding, after reading posts, that my only options are to either replace both drives with two new drives, or replace both drives with a single drive. Is this correct? I just want to make sure I understand my options. Are there any fault tolerance benefits going with a 2 drive system? or is it just simply additional storage capacity?

    Thanks in advance.

You are correct about the drive options (2 to 2 or 2 to 1). We consider the primary difference between a 1 or 2 drive system is the capacity. In a two-drive system, each drive is used half as much, so it's hard to say that there are material fault-tolerance differences.
