  • Hard Drive swap, Series 2 into Dtivo

I have a working series 2 unit with lifetime service and a good hardrive, and a suspected hard drive failure on a hughes standard definition DirectTivo. Can I swap the hard drive from the series 2 unit into the Direct Tivo? More troubleshooting than anything.

Dtivo is stuck on powering up page.

did a quick search with and didnt see anything, thank you for any replies.

No, that won't work. you'd have to have the drive reprogrammed to work in the DirecTV TiVo unit.

aw darn...(in my best larry the cable guy tone)

Thanks for the info, thats what I suspected, guess I will try a new hard drive. Might I be better off getting a whole unit off of Ebay or something? thoughts.

thanks again for the quick reply

We advise people to steer clear of eBay units, given the issues that we hear about every day with people trying to activate used units.

Aside from voiding the warranty, can I swap out the drive from my HD Direct Tivo for troubleshooting purposes? Trying to avoid a restocking fee if the hard drive is not the root cause of the failure.

No; drives from HD TiVos won't work in SD TiVos.
