  • Drive Replacement and Possible Swap

This is my first post on this forum. If this post is in the wrong place, please let me know.

I have an older TiVo (TCD240040) that I upgraded with a 160 GB WK drive a couple years ago that has been great, but now is having issues. From the forums, I gather that the problem is probably the main HD.

In the interim, I bought a new dual tuner unit (TCD649080) and have purchased a replacement primary drive for the old unit to try to revive it.

In a perfect world, I would like to take the 160 GB add on from the old unit (plus PowerTrip, bracket and fans) and put it in the new one. Does anyone know if this be done without messing up the new system? The drive is already formatted for the old unit and currently has old content on it.

I appreciate any help anyone can offer.

You'd need to both reformat the drive, and get a new bracket. In addition to those two issues, you'll then be re-using a drive which sounds like it could be responsible for problems in the current unit. For those reasons, we wouldn't recommend re-using the drive without extensive testing.

If you want to reformat, info is here:

or we can do it here:

The right bracket for a TiVo DT is here:
