HD-S400 bad drive?

My 100GB drive died a few months ago, and I put a WD 120GB in and it appeared to work ok for a while, except unable to do update the Image 7.2.2 that I put on. Finally today, it said doing the service update and reboot. Must have happened all day. I put a 80GB drive and it appears to do the service update ok. I used the same commands for the 80 and 100GB drive when I did the 120GB.
Or do I have a bad drive?

Sounds like a bad drive, if the software works on another drive.

Wonder if the problem is my Promise ATA100 IDE controller. 120Gb works fine in XP, but myabe the Linux uses has problems with driver bigger than 100GB

That shouldn't be the issue. Working fine in XP doesn't necessarily mean the drive is error-free...you might want to test it.

Will run the Maxtor software and Zero out the drive.
