  • Series 2 freezes up on live tv and playback

and does NOT reboot. It doesn't respond to any buttons on remote - only unplugging. I have a TiVo Model TCD540040 with an added WK drive. It's been a few years now with no real problems. I sell it to a friend and boom - it starts freezing up on him. ?? So I have it back to fix.

I already deleted everything hoping that would fix it. no.

Can I take out the added drive and just plug it in to see if it freezes without it? Then I'd know if the primary drive (which came in the TiVo) is the culprit.

You can try that. It will give you an error about external storage missing, and just go through the on-screen process to separate the drives. You will then not be able to install the second drive again without re-programming that second drive.

I haven't tried it yet. But now the TiVo is rebooting every hour or so. The original drive is new and the added one a WK drive. I suspect it MUST be the original drive. Is it complocated to remove the original drive and place the added drive AS the main? Would I have to reprogram it? Can I do this at home on my XP system? And lastly, do you guys have the steps listed here on how to reprogram a single drive?

      thanks

Yes - you'd have to reprogram the drive to make it the main drive.

        We can do it:

        or you can do it:

        Been here a long time . . .
