safely disconnecting external storage

i have a tivo XL with and an external HDD. my usage is only 7% of capacity. if i disconnect the external HDD will i lose all my recordings?

we would would like to save the electricity until we need to have the extra capacity.

Well, the way it works is that you'll lose any recording that is at least partially on the external.

Bottom line is, there's just no way to know in advance where the recordings are, so you're taking your chances. Assume you'll lose everything.

thank you. i guess we will just keep on even though we are such a low percentage right now it will climb as the new season goes on and i would be reconnecting it in a few weeks/months anyway.
