Solid State drive

I may be given a 512 GB SSD soon. If so, will I be able to install that on one of my TiVos? and if so, do I have to format it? I think the drive is made by Crucial.

I have 1 TiVo HD, 1 TiVo HD XL, and 1 TiVo Premiere XL.

This will only work with the TiVoHD and yes, it has to be programmed. See:

Keep in mind that TiVos are not really well-suited for SSDs because they are constantly writing. SSDs, especially consumer-grade SSDs with MLC flash, don't do so well over time with endless writes. But you're free to try.....
