  • Premium 4 (not xl) cable card, one or two?

So I will likely go with the Premier 4 and just had a chat with Brighthouse networks (Tampabay area) and they were askinh ME how many cards it needed.
My guess is two (4 tuners) but I'm not sure.

BTW, we have 100% digital service (no analog channels).

They also provided a list (I think its dated information) of things that supposedly won't work with a modern TIVO.
How many of these things will/will not work?

The following are examples of services that some CableCARD devices such as TiVo may not be able receive:

    Interactive Programming Guide
Pay Per View (PPV) Movies or Events
    In Demand Sports Packages
    ITV – Answers on Demand
    Caller ID on TV
    Digital Simulcast Channels
Movies on Demand, Favorites on Demand, and Premiums on Demand
Switched Digital Video Channels (without a tuning adapter)
    thanks again.....

One more question, related to the tuner adapter.

Are the newer TIVO Premier 4 tuners integrated to the cable card internal to the TIVO? IOW's, is an external tuner needed or not for SDV?

All Premieres can take only ONE CableCARD. Any Multistream CableCARD can technically handle six streams at once, given the right DVR (which doesn't currently exist, AFAIK).

So you definitely only need one card.

Next, you might still need an SDV adapter. Those are cable company-issued, so they can't get built into a DVR at this point. Not all installs need them. It depends on your local technology.

Thanks...Well, given the SDV is in their list of 'stuff' that might not be functional or might make the tivo not functional I assume it's needed.
It's free according to the chat rep....

How about the other 'stuff' on the list?

I don't think you'll get any of the other stuff on the list.

Of course, you'll have access to tons more than that with a TiVo: Netflix, Amazon, Blockbuster, Pandora, Rhapsody, YouTube, etc.

Yeah, I already have NETFLIX and mos of the others already on the TV set.

When I had DTV the Tivo downloaded program content from DTV.

Does it also do that with cable? If not, how would it stay current?

p.s. I already have the cable card and tuner adapter as I went on down to the local office and they gave me both for $3/month. I simply need to order that Tivo Premier 4. I'm hesitating because I won't be here when it's delivered (away for the holidays).

It uses your internet to get the guide data from TiVo's servers.
