Turned on my system this morning and my Pioneer Elite Tivo 57H was stuck on the "Welcome Powering Up" screen......I tried unplugging and same result... The only problem I ever had was last night the pic got stuck during searching for a scene on something I was recording last night.......Has my HDD gone bad, and is it common for them to go bad without any warning at all????

It does sound like a bad drive; I"d recommend that you try a replacement.
When hard drives go bad, they often don't give warning signs, especially if the failure is caused by a power event (surge, brownout).
Freezing is definitely the sign of a drive that is heading south.

Thanks, I suspect the HDD drive also, only problem is a brand new DVD I just purchased is still inside the dvd drive as well and if I'm correct, the only way to open the dvd drive is to replace the HDD, correct?????Comment

You might be able to manually flip the door down and use a paperclip in the manual release hole. Sometimes you can reach it, sometimes you can't.Been here a long time . . .Comment
