  • Two HDVR2s unable to make call

I've got two HDVRs and both suddenly stopped being able to make daily calls 2.5 months ago on December 28. The phone message is "Failed, could not connect". The "you haven't made a call" nag is getting tiresome, so I'm trying to fix this. I have plain old wired telephone service. I've tried the following:

Connecting only one HDVR at a time to the line (in case one is interfering with the other)
    Different phone numbers
Verifying the phone line and cord work by connecting a telephone
Connecting to a second phone line
,#019 prefix to slow down the modem
Turning off dial tone detection and availability detection

Is there anything left to try, or should I just assume something on the line blew up both modems and order an external modem?

Try building a different local number into the dialing prefix. You can find a link to the list of local numbers in our FAQ:

Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't work either. I'm going to go with the presumption that both modems are toasted. Drat. I've ordered one of your suggested Uninterruptible Power Supplys that also does phone line filtering, so at least I'll protect the external modem that I'm going to order.

        Sounds like the right move.
