  • 2nd Tivo networking

O.K., basic question from a noob.

I've got a Series2 DT 80 hour unit. I'd like to hook up a second box on the kids TV that I can transfer their shows to. Can I get any network capable Tivo box, set it up for networking, and transfer shows to it without ever registering the box and paying a monthly fee on the 2nd one? I don't need any guide functionality or anything on the second box, just ability to transfer shows and watch.

    Thanks.

Nope - it won't do anything without an active subscription.
    Been here a long time . . .

      Alternatives?

OK... I'm bummed that you can't network two TiVOs for the purpose of transferring recordings from the one with service to one that doesn't have service. Is there an alternative? I really want control to select, pause, 'rewind', and ffwd programs otherwise I could just use wireless video networking from one location to the other. Is there some device &/or procedure that will get me what I'm looking for without a second TiVO subscription? Thanks in advance for any creative (but non-Rube Goldberg like) ideas.

TiVos require a subscription. There really is no way around that.
