  • Qwest Phone Line "wears out" Modem

    Has anyone heard this one?

Apparently Tivo Tech Support is telling customers who's modems have failed that if their phone company is Qwest that their line is digital (even if they are on POTS) and that it "wore out" their modem.

As far as I can tell this isn't just one uninformed phone rep but company policy.

    Pretty bizarre.

      Unfortunately I have a series 3.

What gets me is that they have the gall to tell people this crock. When I asked them for something in writing to back up their claim they directed me to a part of their web site that says plugging into a digital PBX will kill the modem (well duh).

Why not just network the unit? It's very easy to do.

We have seen situations where excess voltage on phone lines does take out modems, but generally, not in Series3 machines.

What is the exact error message you're getting?
            Been here a long time . . .
