  • SD-DVR40 Lock-Up

I have two SD-DVR40 units in the house doing the exact same thing. I have owned one of the units for years and it's never had a problem. The second unit was bought about two years ago as a refurb. Neither unit has been upgraded, so they should be as they were when they came from the factory.

Here's the problem: a couple of times a day the unit will freeze. They run 24/7. It's been happening for weeks and it's getting more frequent. The units go from fully functional to frozen in an instant. There's no remedy except to unplug and allow it to reboot. The tuners work fine and the data on the hard drive is intact. Of course if it happens overnight, we don't know until we turn the TV on in the morning. If something was supposed to record overnight, it won't record.

Are both units dying at the same time?

Sounds like both drives are failing - not too unusual given that a power event in the house would affect both units.

    Try "replace" kits from here:
