  • Help a tivo beginner.....

I have a tivo (series 2) that I am considering hooking up, however, I want to clear a few things up before I do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Most importantly, am I going to compromise my HD picture by using a non-hd tivo system. My cable box is connected to my tv through an hdmi cable, but I see that the tivo needs to be connected through component cables. Are these component cables going to take away from the crystal clear picture my hdmi setup is providing?

Yes, you will absolutely compromise your HD picture if you go through an non-HD TiVo. There is no TiVo that accepts HD (or even component) inputs from a cable box.

You really should be considering a Tivo from here:

    High Definition TiVo

Will my hd picture for live tv be compromised as well, or just the recorded programs?

If the live TV goes through the TiVo, it will also be SD really. If you watch HD around the TiVo with direct inputs, you lose TiVo (no pausing, etc.) but you get HD.
        Been here a long time . . .
